Iraqi CTS detains 13 ISIS leaders, members

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi counter-terrorism forces detained 13 leaders and members of Islamic State (ISIS) in the country, the agency said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the counter-terrorism service (CTS) said its units detained three ISIS leaders in an operation in Baghdad.

In a separate operation, the CTS forces arrested another ISIS leader as well as a militant accompanying him in Kirkuk province, it added.

Eight other ISIS members were detained in Anbar, Saladin, Nineveh and Diyala provinces, the CTS stated.

In 2017 Baghdad announced victory over Islamic State (ISIS), and attacks in Iraqi cities have since become much rarer, although troops continue to fight ISIS sleeper cells in mountainous and desert areas.

The militants still mount deadly operations, mostly at night and in remote areas.
