SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A wildfire raged through forest areas across the Qaradagh district of Sulaimani province on Sunday and burnt swathes of land.

An extensive fire erupted in the Sewsenan sub-district of Qaradagh at Takee Mountain during the morning hours, according to the Sulaimani Forest police directorate.

It stated that initially, the forest police were able to control the fire, however, due to the harsh physical geography of the area, the fire erupted again.

Forest police’s estimates have shown that at least 500 dunums of land have been burnt as a result, destroying hundreds of years-old trees.
