Ministry to investigate factory blast that injured 13 people in Sulaimani

The explosion took place at a steel factory in Tanjaro area in Sulaimani

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region’s ministry of labor and social affairs has formed a delegation to investigate an explosion that took place at a steel factory in Sulaimani province earlier this week, an official said on Sunday.

Thirteen people were wounded in a blast at a steel factory in Tanjaro area in Sulaimani on Saturday, according to a health official.

Two of the wounded were in “an unstable condition”, spokesman of the health directorate Saman Sheikh Latif told Esta Media Network.

The ministry’s spokesman, Aryan Ahmed, said a delegation from the ministry of labor and social affairs visited the factory and investigations were ongoing.

“So far, the reason behind the explosion is unclear,” he told Esta Media Network.

“If the investigation’s results showed that the factory’s owner was reckless, he would be punished severely,” he said.

In December, a 45-year-old laborer was killed and another was injured after an explosion occurred at Kawrgosk steel factory in Erbil.

In April 2021, an explosion at Master Steel factory in Sulaimani killed a laborer and wounded three others.
