Duhok police arrest former Iraqi minister, two others over killing of man

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Police said on Sunday they have detained a former Iraqi minister and two others over the killing of a man in Duhok province.

A man was killed in the village of Pirafate in Zaweta sub-district last week. Activist Ayhan Saeed cited people close to the victim as saying that former Iraqi minister Dindar Najman Doski had “killed” Haji Kamaran Pirafate, a well-known figure in the Doski tribe in the Badinan area.

A land dispute between Pirafati and Doski was behind the incident, according to information Esta Media Network has obtained.

Doski was a Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) minister in the Iraqi government. He resigned from the KIU several years ago and joined the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

Duhok Police spokesman Hemn Sleman said arrest warrants were issued for three people including Doski over the killing.

“One of the suspects surrendered to police the same day,” Sleman told Esta Media Network.

“The other two suspects surrendered yesterday,” he added, noting that one of them was the former Iraqi minister.
