Journalist Omed Baroshki released in Duhok – reporter

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdish journalist Omed Baroshki was released on Tuesday after he was taken to custody again in Duhok despite a decision by court to free him.

Esta Media Network reporter in Duhok said Baroshki was released on Tuesday night by the security forces.

On Monday, a court in Duhok ruled to free Baroshki from prison after serving his prison term.

Despite the court’s decisions, the security forces took the journalist to custody in Duhok city, according to his lawyer Bashdar Hassan.

Baroshki was detained in Duhok province in May 2020 after three cases were filed against him by the security institutions and a lawmaker, who later withdrew his complaint.

He was accused of allegedly undermining national security of the Kurdistan Region by the security institutions.
