SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Turkish warplanes on Sunday bombed areas around villages in Amedi district, northeast of Duhok, according to Esta Media Network reporter.

Esta’s reporter in Duhok said Turkish fighter jets carried out airstrikes against targets around the villages of Spindari Khalfu and Derashe as well as the foothills of Matin mountain in Amedi.

“The warplanes and drones are flying over the skies of the area,” the reporter cited residents as saying.

Casualties remained unclear and there was no immediate comment from authorities in Duhok province.

Turkey intermittently conducts airstrikes against suspected positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region.

Turkey has taken its decades-old conflict with the PKK deep into the Kurdistan Region, establishing military bases and deploying armed military drones against the fighters in their mountain strongholds.

Most of the operations have focused on territory up to 30 km (20 miles) from the border.
