SULAIMANI (ESTA) —  The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) on Friday called for arrest of perpetrators who attacked its headquarters in Baghdad.

“We consider attacks on headquarters of our party and other parties as a destructive act and we condemn them,” the KDP Politburo said in a statement.

The party’s headquarters was attacked with a bomb in Baghdad at dawn on Thursday. The attack caused no casualties.

“We tell the perpetrators of the attack that those behaviors aren’t a way to solve problems, but further complicate the situation,” the KDP’s politburo said.

It added that the security forces are responsible for the safety of its members in Baghdad.

It also called on the Iraqi government’s institutions to find the perpetrate and bring them to justice.

Earlier on Friday, an explosion from a hand grenade hit the headquarters of Taqaddum party led by parliament speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi in Baghdad.

The blast caused damage to the building’s doors and windows, police said.

Two people were wounded in the blast.

A similar incident hours later targeted the Baghdad headquarters of the Azm party of another Sunni Muslim politician, Khamis al-Khanjar, police said, but caused only light damage.

No group claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Iraq’s parliament, newly elected after an October 10 general election in which the powerful Shia Muslim cleric Moqtada al-Sadr was the biggest winner, voted to reinstate Halbousi for his second term as speaker on Sunday.

Shia parties aligned with Iran and which rival Sadr, opposed the selection of Halbousi.
