PUK and KDP officials meet in Erbil

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Officials from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) met in Erbil on Monday to discuss the latest developments in the Region.

A PUK delegation including Co-leader Bafel Talabani met with KDP officials at the Kurdistan Region Presidency’s building in Erbil.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, who is also KDP’s deputy leader, participated in the meeting.

Both parties and the Region’s president discussed the latest political developments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region as well as challenges facing the Region’s people, including economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, a joint statement by the parties said.

The Region’s president stressed on the importance of joint works between the political parties in the Kurdistan Region, particularly between the PUK and KDP, the statement read.

Barzani expressed the presidency’s readiness to support and assist joint works and cooperation between the parties, the PUK-KDP statement said.

The PUK and KDP officials agreed that both parties should take “serious and practical steps” to resolve issues with other political parties, according to the statement.

“Both parties agreed that the protection of stability and tranquility of the Kurdistan Region is a duty of all sides,” the joint statement read.
