SULAIMANI (ESTA) — German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht visited Iraq on Sunday, according to state news agency INA.
Germany’s newly-appointed defense minister arrived in Baghdad on an official visit and was welcomed by her Iraqi counterpart Juma Inad.
The two ministers discussed bilateral relations between Germany and Iraq, the Iraqi defense ministry said in a statement.
She later met with Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, the premier’s press office said in a tweet.
Kadhimi stressed the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries in “various fields, especially security, military and intelligence,” the statement read.
Lambrecht is expected to visit the Kurdistan Region where he will meet President Nechirvan Barzani.
