Political conflicts should not hinder Peshmerga reforms: Deputy Prime Minster

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Thursday stated that the political conflicts should not hinder the reforms within the Peshmerga Ministry.

The Deputy Prime Minister’s words came after he met a UK military delegation led by Air Marshall Sammy Sampson, the UK Defence Senior Advisor to the Middle East and North Africa.

“Political conflicts should not affect the implementation of the reform process within the Peshmerga Ministry,” Talabani said, according to a statement released by his office.

“We will make every possible effort to make Peshmerga more united, stronger, and trained,” he said.

In the meantime, Talabani voiced concern regarding the current internal situation of the Kurdistan Region.

“The threats against the Kurdistan Region must be taken into account and the high interests should not be the victim of party interests,” he added.

“Party interference and political conflict should not affect the implementation of Peshmerga reform plans or hinder the process.”
