SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Italian foreign minister Luigi Di Maio will visit Iraq and the Kurdistan Region on Thursday, Italian media said.
Di Maio will meet Iraqi Prime Mustafa al-Kadhimi and President Barham Salih upon his arrived to Baghdad, Italian news outlet Cronachedi reported.
He will also meet Italian troops and U.S.-led Coalition contingent in Baghdad, according to the Italy’s foreign minister.
The Italian minister will then head to the Kurdistan Region where he will meet President Nechirvan Barzani, Esta Media Network’s reporter said.
He is expected to discuss the latest developments in the region, the fight against Islamic State (ISIS) as well as the formation of a new government with Barzani, he added.
Di Maio will also meet Italian troops stationed at Singara Camp in Erbil, the Italian foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
“… Tomorrow, I will meet out soldiers who serve in these two countries to bring greetings of the Italian government to them,” Di Maio said in a Facebook post, referring to Kuwait and Iraq.
Di Maio visited Kuwait on Wednesday.
“Meetings with local authorities are also on the agenda to strengthen Italy’s bilateral relations.”
