SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Turkish security forces “neutralized” nine members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region earlier this month, state news agency reported on Monday.

Anadolu Agency cited security sources as saying that the Turkish forces had carried an operation against the PKK fighters in the region of Gara on December 9.

Nine PKK fighters were “neutralized” during the operation, carried out by the Turkish armed forces and national intelligence organization, they added.

Turkey uses “neutralize” term for targets who have been killed or wounded.

The PKK has yet to confirm the figures.

Turkey has taken its decades-old conflict with the PKK deep into the Kurdistan Region, establishing military bases and deploying armed military drones against the fighters in their mountain strongholds.

Most of the operations have focused on territory up to 30 km (20 miles) from the border.
