News

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Several rockets were fired toward a Turkish military base in Sheikhan district in Duhok province on Sunday, a local official said.

Mayor of Sheikhan district Sardar Taha said five rockets landed near a military base, where Turkish troops are stationed, at around 08:00 p.m. on Sunday.

“There were no casualties,” Taha told Esta Media Network.

“The rockets were fired from Mosul, but the perpetrators are still unknown.”

Around 600 Turkish troops are stationed at the base, supporting the Iraqi forces in the fight against Islamic State (ISIS) militants, according to Esta Media Network reporter in the area.

The military base has been targeted several times in the past months.

In September, four Katyusha rockets were fired toward the base, without causing casualties.

In April, three rockets were launched at the base, killing a Turkish soldier and injuring a child.
