Security forces detain perpetrators of crimes in Sulaimani: intelligence official

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The security forces in Sulaimani arrested perpetrators carried out crimes in the province in the past days, a senior intelligence official said on Saturday, one day after a Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) cadre was killed. 

Director of Parastin and Zanyari/Zanyari Agency Azhi Amin praised police and the security and counter-terrorism forces for arresting the perpetrators.

On Friday, a gunman shot and killed Sarhad Shukri, a member of the PKK Committee of Martyrs’ Family, in Sulaimani’s Chwarchra neighborhood.

Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani condemned the assassination on Friday, ordering the security forces to find perpetrators and bring them to justice.

On Thursday, another PKK follower, Farhad Barsh, was wounded in Sulaimani.

“Criminals of the past days’ crimes were detained and we handed them to the law,” the intelligence official wrote on his Facebook page.

“We will release evidence and confession to the public soon,” he added.

On Friday, the Counter-Terrorism Service in Sulaimani said it had gathered information about the incidents took place in the province in the past 48 hours.

“No conspiracy will mislead Sulaimani and its security institutions,” it added.
