SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani said on Sunday the attack carried out by Islamic State (ISIS) against Peshmerga forces proves the fact that the group still poses a threat to security of the country.

ISIS militants attacked Peshmerga forces near Prde in south of Erbil late on Saturday, killing two members of the Kurdish forces.

“The continued attacks of terrorists prove the fact that Daesh is still a real threat and poses a threat to security and tranquility of the country,” Barzani said in a statement.

He used an Arabic acronym for the militant group.

“Therefore, we need to confront the group until it is completely defeated in cooperation and coordination of Peshmerga, Iraqi military and security forces, backed by the international coalition,” he added.

A Peshmerga source told Esta Media Network that the militants used PKC machine gun in the attack against Peshmerga in Zrga Zraw area on Kirkuk frontline.
