SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Co-president Bafel Talabani called on Swedish capitalists to invest in the Kurdistan Region.
Talabani held a meeting with new Swedish Ambassador to Iraq Jonas Loven in Sulaimani city on Sunday.
The two sides discussed efforts to form a new Iraqi government following the October 10 parliamentary election as well as relations between Kurdish parties and developing ties between the Region and Sweden, Talabani’s office said.
Talabani reiterated the expansion of cooperation and coordination between the Kurdistan Region and Sweden, a statement by his office read.
He also expressed the PUK’s support for businessmen and Swedish capitalists to invest in the Kurdistan Region, the statement said.
Talabani also called on the Swedish investors to help and contribute to the development of the Kurdistan Region, according to the statement.
Regarding education sector, the PUK co-president suggested a joint education project to get benefit from Sweden’s experience and skills and called on Sweden to support the Region in developing the education sector.
“On the basis of modern scientific principles, students and Kurdish youths who have a good ability should be educated and be prepared according to the society’s needs, changes and bazaar, so that they can be benefited from in the labor market, and job opportunities are provided for them,” he noted.
Separately, Talabani met with Australian Ambassador to Iraq Paula Ganly in Sulaimani. He also called for investment in the Kurdistan Region during the meeting.
