Bafel Talabani calls for continuity of coordination, cooperation to unify military units

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Co-president Bafel Talabani on Monday called for the continuity of coordination and cooperation to reorganize and unify military units in the Kurdistan Region. 

Talabani met with General Fabro, head of Italy’s special forces in Iraq and Syria, in Sulaimani on Monday.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in the country as well as coordination between the Kurdistan Region’s forces and U.S.-led coalition forces and the fight against terrorism in Iraq and Syria as well as efforts to end Islamic State (ISIS) remnants in the region, Talabani’s press office said in a statement.

Talabani thanked the coalition forces and Italian forces for their continued help and support in the fight against terror and to train the Peshmerga forces, the statement read.

He also called for “continued coordination and cooperation so as to reorganize and unify the military units”, his office said.

“Coordination and cooperation between the Peshmerga forces and coalition force are very important and we should be supportive in protecting our gains, stability and tranquility in the region,” he added.

“There should be more coordination between the forces of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as well as the coalition so that no security vacuum will occur and we protect the secure of the region all together.”
