SULAIMANI (ESTA) — One person was killed in an explosion that hit Afrin city on Sunday, according to Syrian observatory.
An explosion said to be a bomb-laden car took place in Ashrafiya neighborhood in Afrin, which is under the control of Turkish-backed rebels.
North Press Agency reported that an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in the area.
Britain-based Syrian observatory for human rights said one person was killed and four others were injured in the blast.
The explosion also caused damages in the area.
No groups have claimed responsibility for the blast.
The city, which Turkey administers with the help of Syrian Arab rebels it backs, has in the last year been frequently hit by bombings detonated in crowded civilian areas.
Turkey has accused the People’s Protection Units (YPG) of carrying out previous blasts that had killed dozens in the towns near the border under Turkish troops’ control.
The YPG has denied previous accusations of attacks on civilians. It says it only targets Turkish soldiers and their allies in a guerrilla campaign to drive out “occupiers”.
The YPG says Ankara wants to drive out Kurds and settle Arabs.
