SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Two Kurdish fighters from the Eastern Kurdistan Units (YRK), a military wing of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), were killed in a Turkish airstrike in a village in the Kurdistan Region, the group said on Tuesday.
On Saturday, Turkey bombed a vehicle in the village of Galala in Mawat district, north of Sulaimani.
YRK, an armed Iranian Kurdish opposition group, said in a statement that a Turkish drone attacked “our comrades” who went to carry out a mission in the area.
“Two of our women comrades were martyred in the strike,” it added.
Turkey has taken its decades-old conflict with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) deep into the Kurdistan Region, establishing military bases and deploying armed military drones against the fighters in their mountain strongholds.
Most of the operations have focused on territory up to 30 km (20 miles) from the border.
The Turkish defense ministry said on Tuesday that its security forces had “neutralized” at least two PKK fighters in northern Iraq, without giving further details.
Turkey uses “neutralize” term for targets who have been killed or wounded.
Turkish state news agency Anadolu also reported PKK fighter Ulas Dogan, known as Ulan Dersim, was “neutralized” on Tuesday in an operation carried out by Turkey’s MIT in Qaladizah district in Sulaimani province.
Anadolu accused Dogan of “planning a terror attack against Turkey … provoking civilians in northern Iraq against Turkey”.
