SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Co-president Bafel Talabani met with the head of the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Iraq (ICRC) to discuss environmental problems and the protection of water resources in the country.
Talabani and Jean-Jerome Casabianca discussed human activities and their impact on society and ways to combat drought, as Iraq and the Region are facing a shortage of water due to low rainfalls and a halt in water flow from neighboring countries.
They also discussed ways to overcome the environmental problems and water shortages, Talabani’s office said in a statement.
The PUK co-president praised the ICRC in Iraq for its assistance to the Iraqi displaced people, his office said.
He also called on the delegation to continue their works and steps in serving the environment and humanitarian works and to play more role in solving and combating environmental problems facing Iraq and the Region, according to the statement.
Talabani reaffirmed the PUK’s cooperation and support for further succeeding works of the humanitarian organizations in order to put in place a new strategy to reduce damages and to further serve society, his office stated.
He also considered coordination between organizations as importance for serving people who need help and assistance, the statement said.
