SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Defense Minister Juma Inad visited Kirkuk on Thursday to follow up operations launched by the security forces to clear areas from Islamic State (ISIS) remnants.
Major General Yehia Rasool said the defense minister held a meeting with security officials and commanders at the joint operations command in Kirkuk.
He reviewed the security situation in the province and followed up the anti-ISIS operation in southwest of Kirkuk, Rasool told state news agency INA.
The Iraqi forces along with Hashid al-Shaabi launched a large-scale operation against ISIS remnants from four directions to clear the areas of Wadi al-Shay and Wadi Zighatoun and Taza Kurmatu as well as the village of al-Sada.
The security forces destroyed nine ISIS hideouts, three tunnels, 127 rockets and 15 explosive devices during the operation, according to Iraqi security media cell.
National Iraqi News Agency reported that Inad had also discussed efforts to enhance stability and coordination between the military units in the province.
