SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A visit by Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias to the Kurdistan Region has been cancelled due to technical issues, Kurdish authorities said on Wednesday.
Dendias was scheduled to visit the Kurdistan Region and open Greece Consulate General in Erbil following his visit to Baghdad.
The Kurdistan Region’s Department of Foreign Relations said in a statement that Dendias’ visit had been cancelled due to a “technical issue in their plane”.
The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday that Dendias would meet Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani in Erbil.
The Greek foreign minister would also “inaugurate Greece’s Consulate General in Erbil, with local officials in attendance”, the statement read.
Dendias arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday to meet his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, President Barham Salih and Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.
He also signed memorandum of understandings with Hussein on trade relations.
