SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Two Katyusha rockets fell outside Iraq’s Balad Air Base hosting U.S.-led Coalition troops in Saladin province, according to the Iraqi military.
Iraqi Security Media Cell said in a statement that the rockets were launched from al-Dujma area within the Diyala operation sector.
The attack caused no casualties or material damages, according to the Iraqi military.
Earlier, Commander of Balad Air Base Major General Zia Mohsen told Iraqi news agency that the rockets fell three kilometers away from the base, causing no casualties.
The Balad Air Base was hit by several rockets in March and February and one person said to be an Iraqi was wounded.
No group immediately claimed the attack, but armed groups that some Iraqi officials have said are backed by Iran have claimed similar incidents in the past.
U.S. officials blame Iran-backed militias for regular rocket attacks on U.S. facilities in Iraq, including near the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
Iran-aligned paramilitary groups have demanded that all foreign troops, including U.S. forces who number around 2,500 in Iraq, leave the country, calling their presence an occupation.
A U.S.-led coalition, whose mission is to fight Islamic State militants, is still stationed in Iraq, as well as a NATO-led mission that trains Iraqi security forces.
