SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Deputy Head of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Abu Fadak who was labelled by the United States a “terrorist” visited Kirkuk on Monday.
The PMF said in a statement that Abdulaziz al-Muhamadawi, known as Abu Fadak, paid a “security visit” to Kirkuk for talks with security officials in the city.
“The aim of the visit is to meet with Hashid al-Shaabi military units and the security forces in Kirkuk,” said the Iraqi paramilitary.
The United States imposed sanctions on Abu Fadak in January, a senior figure of the Iran-backed Kataib Hezbollah militia.
The U.S. department of state claimed that Abu Fadak was working with Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ expeditionary Quds Force to “reshape official Iraqi state security institution … to instead support Iran’s malign activities”.
