SULAIMANI (ESTA) — One Iraqi policeman was killed and eight others were wounded in two separate attacks by Islamic State (ISIS) in south of Kirkuk late on Friday, according to a security source.
ISIS militants attacked a checkpoint of Iraqi police in Daquq district on Friday night, killing one policeman and wounding two others, the security source said.
Six members of the security forces were wounded in a separate attack by the militant group on al-Rashad district in southwestern Kirkuk last night, Shafaaq cited a security source and a medic as saying.
Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December 2017 but the militants have regrouped in the Hamrin mountain range which extends into the northern provinces – an area described by officials as a “triangle of death”.
Separately, units of Iraqi agency of intelligence and federal investigation arrested six ISIS members in several areas in Kirkuk province, the agency said on Friday. They also seized six ISIS hideouts in Hawija and Daquq.
