SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani on Monday reiterated his support for the government agenda amid a meeting with Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.
Talabani who is in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, leading a senior delegation, was welcomed by Prime Minister Sudani.
The two sides highlighted the political, economic, and security situation of the country, stressing resolving the issues and succeeding in the government agenda, the meeting’s readout released by Talabani’s office read.
“Committing to the political agreements and preserving the rights of all sides in the frame of law and constitution, ensures maintaining stability, as well as tranquillity and succeeding the government agenda,” Talabani said, according to the readout.
In the meantime, he called for the removal of the political obstacles before the implementation of the government agenda and to serve the country’s people and components.
Talabani also emphasized resolving Erbil-Baghdad issues and sending the financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region.
He further added that the Region’s financial entitlements “are the genuine right of the Kurdistan civil servants and has nothing to do with any political parties.”
In the meantime, Sudani’s office in a separate statement said he had discussed the overall general situation in the country with the PUK’s Talabanai, stressing “the support of all political forces for the government’s steps in implementing the decisions of its program and its comprehensive priorities for all Iraqis.”
The pair also emphasized adopting dialogue in resolving political differences, according to the statement.
The meeting also witnessed the emphasis on the importance of consensus regarding the overdue election of the Kurdistan Region Parliament, “in a way that enhances the democratic experience and political stability in various parts of the country.”
