‘consensus’ is key solution for problems, says Bafel Talabani amid meeting with Khazali

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Bafel Jalal Talabani met leader of Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq Qais Khazali on Wednesday after he paid a visit to the Iraqi capital Baghdad late on Tuesday, Talabani’s office announced in a statement.

In a meeting, Talabani’s media office said, the latest efforts towards the formation of the new Iraqi government as well as the solution to the problems were discussed, according to the statement.

“Completing the lawful and constitutional entitlements have been stressed in favor of establishing a strengthful government that is capable to fulfil high objectives and serve the citizens besides with the country,” it said.

The statement also noted that President Talabani emphasized, “We have supported consensus, compromise and stability from the very beginning”, because “we believe that these are the key solutions towards the problems, today with the same perspective and strategy which former Iraq’s President Jalal Talabani had adopted, we lust to follow in order to collectively serve the high objectives”

The President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Jalal Talabani has previously made several surprise visits to Baghdad and carried out meetings with top Iraq leaders as well.

Earlier on June 28, Talabani had received the top leaders of the Shiite coordination framework, al-Azm alliance as well as Babylon movement at former Iraq’s president (Jalal Talabani) palace in Baghdad

Talabani’s meetings with Iraq’s political party focused on the formation of the new Iraqi government that has been postponed for almost nine-month since the last early election due to political disagreement between the parties. He wants to bring a decisive agreement in order to put an end to the current political stalemate in Iraq.

The country held its last parliamentary elections in October 2021, however, the political dispute has hindered government formation. Since then, Iraq is trapped inside deep political impasses.
