SULAIMANI (ESTA) — At least 49 violations against journalists have been recorded in the Kurdistan Region during the first half of 2023, according to a watchdog report on Tuesday.
Speaking at the press conference, the head of the Reporters Organizations for Rights and Developments released the records of violations against journalists.
“99 journalists have been subjected to the violations across the Region,” he said
During that specific period, “19 coverage prevention and 38 journalists’ blocking have been recorded, and two lawsuits have been filed against journalists,” he added.
“Eight incidents of confiscating journalism-related equipment have been recorded.”
In the meantime, “Seven journalists have been subjected to physical attacks.”
The report also indicated that 25 journalists have been fired from their working places without specific reasons.
At least two media agencies have been subjected to cyberattacks, according to the report.
Duhok ranked first in recording violations against journalists with 25 of the cases from there.
Meanwhile, Erbil ranked second, while Sulaimani recorded the least violations against journalists during the first six months of 2023.
