KRG Deputy Premier cautions on environmental changes

“There is no good governance unless the environment is at the strategic priority,” says KRG Deputy Premier Qubad Talabani.

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime on Sunday cautioned on the environmental changes in Kurdistan.

KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Sunday said he had met with dozens of environment experts and academics, he said in a post on his Facebook page.

“We discussed plans for combating the environmental threats, in the nearby future, we will hold nationwide meetings so that we can prioritize the issue of the environment in policies and strategies of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region,” he said.

The Deputy Prime Minister cautioned that a “dangerous” future awaits for the next generation of Kurdistan, according to the post.

“The current generation, as governance and governed,  might be the last who has the ability to stop some certain environmental disasters and its severe consequences,” he added.

“There is no good governance unless the environment is at the strategic priority,” he stressed.

In the meantime, the Deputy Prime Minister revealed that they will hold a vital meeting on Monday, which will be joined by the KRG Ministry of Planning, as well as the diplomats, consuls, and envoys to outline a strong comprehensive plan for the environmental threats.
