PUK President says with ‘glory’ he commemorates martyrs of Qaladiza bombardment by Ba’ath regime

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani released a statement on Monday on the 49th anniversary of Iraq’s Ba’ath regime bombardment of the Qaladiza town and University of Sulaimani.  

Talabani in the statement honored the martyrs who lost their lives in the 1974 bombardment of the Qaladiza and the University of Sulaimani by the Ba’ath’s regime warplanes, saying, “With glory, we commemorate the martyrs of that tragedy.”

“We pay tribute to the struggler people of Qaladiza who are a unique example of struggle and willingness to make sacrifices for the glory of Kurdistan,” He said.

Talabani further stated that Qaladiza and its courageous people are symbols of combating injustice and oppression, adding, “They had protected Kurdistan with their own blood.”

The Kurdish leader also stressed that the government should be committed to compensating Qaladiza and offering further services, according to the statement.

“We salute the souls of the martyrs of this unforgettable tragedy. The PUK will not forget your suffering and struggle, it will be faithful to your loyalty. Glory and immortality to the all martyrs of Kurdistan,” Talabani concluded.
