SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq and the United Nations on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding which aims to increase the two sides’ cooperation to combat corruption.
The treaty was signed in the presence of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani. It also helps Iraq to promote transparency and tackle the corruption issues in private and public sectors, Iraqi media reported.
The Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation to the United Nations for aiding Iraq in the fight to end corruption.
According to what the Prime Minister stated which has been reported by the Iraqi media, the incumbent government has paid great attention to the anti-corruption file in the state institutions.
He further stressed that the government is continuing to go after the corrupt and those involved in stealing the state’s money, pledging to recover the “looted” funds.
In light of the UN-Iraq treaty, the UN provides support to the Iraqi government in strengthening its steps to combat corruption and including developing the capabilities of anti-corruption bodies.
