Qubad Talabani discusses Kurdistan, Iraq situation with PUK faction in Baghdad

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Head of President Mam Jalal’s Secretariat Office, Qubad Talabani, discussed the situation of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq with the faction of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK ) in the Iraqi council of representatives, in Baghdad on Monday.

Talabani discussed the latest changes in the Kurdistan Region. He also highlighted Saturday’s meeting of the PUK and the rival Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), said Kareem Shkur, a member of the PUK faction in the Iraqi legislative chamber.

After months of conflictual relations the two rival Kurdish parties, the PUK and KDP, met at the level of politburo to address the recent escalation of disagreements between the two sides.

The meeting took place in Sulaimani at the politburo of the PUK, where it received a delegation from the KDP, last Saturday.

A joint statement following the meeting revealed that both sides agreed to continue the talks regarding the disagreements.

Shkur further stated they discussed the PUK faction’s works in the Iraqi council of representatives and the faction’s performances in the chamber.

The last PUK and KDP meeting marked a new round of negotiations between the two amid the heightening of the tensions over several issues concerning the Kurdistan Region.

Moreover, on Sunday, a source familiar with the situation revealed that the PUK discusses the end result of the meeting with the KDP with other Kurdish political parties.
