Ten people killed in anti-government protests in Sulaimani province

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Ten protesters and members of security forces have been killed in the anti-government protests in Sulaimani and Halabja provinces in the past three days, Esta Media Network has learned.

Hundreds of people took to the streets in 15 cities and towns in protest of salary delays and lack of services this week.

Anti-government protests took place in Piramagroon, Ranya, Qaladiza, Chwarqurna, Takiya, Chamchamal, Arbat, Said Sadiq, Khurmal, Halabja, Darbandikhan, Sharazoor, Penjwen, Kalar and Kifri.

Eight protesters, a guard of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) office in Penjwen and a member of the security forces have been killed during the demonstrations, according to statistics Esta Media Network has obtained.

More than 100 protesters and members of the security forces have also been wounded.

Angry protesters set fire to 145 headquarters of several political parties and government offices in both provinces.

Anti-government demonstrations continued in Kifri, Ranya and Qaladiza on Thursday.

On Wednesday, authorities extended a 24-hour curfew between cities and towns in the provinces of Sulaimani and Halabja as well as the administrations of Raparin and Garmian, starting from 12 a.m. on Thursday.
