SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdish leader as well as President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani on Sunday in Baghdad carried out a series of meetings with Iraqi officials and political figures.
Talabani who is in the Iraqi capital had earlier met Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al Sudani, former Prime Minster Adil Abdul Mahdi, and Justice Minister Khalid Shwani, according to his office.
Apart from this, Talabani was received by Iraqi President Latif Rashid. The two sides in the meeting stressed the continuity of the discussions and unity among the political parties, said Talabani’s office in a statement.
President Rashid and the President of the PUK also discussed the Erbil-Baghdad issues, laying emphasis on overcoming the problems.
They further demanded the constitution and real partnership be the “measures” to resolve the issues, the office added in the statement.
In a separate meeting, Talabani received the Secretary-General of Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, Qais Khazali, Secretary-General of the Iraqi Babylon movement Rayan al-Kldani and the Head of the Azem Alliance, Muthanna Abdul Samad al-Samarrai.
The sides discussed the latest development, and the duties of the political parties to succeed in the implementation of the new government agenda.
The offices have also stressed coordination and enduring assistance among the “national” forces for the sake of passing the constitutional as well as national duties and protecting the rights of all Iraqi nations.
The joint leaders meeting demanded both “national interest” and “real partnership” be the foundations to strengthen the pillars of statehood. In the meantime, they demanded an inherent solution for the disputes between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Moreover, President Talabani reiterated the Kurdish people’s desire to reach an agreement and resolve the issues, according to a statement from his office.
“Our aim is preserving stability as well as fulfilling the rights of the Kurdish people in the frame of the Iraqi Federal state,” said Talabani.
“We want coexistence and harmony be foundations for working,” and “We are confident that we can lead the country toward peace with our friends and brothers,” he added.
His office also revealed that the President of the PUK has been received by the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zaidan.
Talabani’s and Faiaq’s meeting touched upon resolving Erbil and Baghdad’s issues while stressing constitution and law to be the bases of the solution in a manner that protects everyone’s rights.
The two sides emphasized preserving the Judicial Authority, and law enforcement as well as more coordination with the Kurdistan Region to execute the courts’ decisions.
