SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Politburo of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on Saturday held an ordinary session overseen by the President of the party, Bafel Talabani.
PUK Politburo in Sulaimani has touched upon several issues including the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people and the latest developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. It is worth mentioning that President of Iraq Latif Rashid partook in the meeting, a press release said.
During the session, PUK President Bafel Talabani expressed his excitement that the position of the President is still in the hand of the Kurdish people, particularly when it’s occupied by the PUK.
Moreover, President Talabani reaffirmed the support of the PUK politburo for the Iraqi President, hoping for Rashid’s success in his new assignment, representing all of the nations and components as the protector of the country.
In the meantime, President Rashid voiced cheer over PUK’s decision that decided to have a strong presence in the Iraqi Capital, Baghdad, to advocate its program as well as strategies.
During the midst of October, Talabani, President of the PUK in the Iraqi capital chaired the first meeting of the Politburo. it marked the first meeting in Baghdad since late leader Mam Jalal’s farewell, the former Secretary-General of the PUK who died on October 3, 2017, in Germany.
Baghdad’s meeting of the PUK came as the party decided to have a more strong organizational and political presence in the Iraqi capital following the Presidential election in the parliament.
Discussions also touched upon the Iraqi situation as Prime Minister-designate Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani is currently tasked with the formation of the new Iraqi government in the legally designated period.
They specifically elaborated on the Kurdish entitlements in Sudani’s government, and the necessity of the formation of a service government, according to the press release.
Another part of the meeting discussed the Kurdistan Region situation. It was importantly talked on adopting a “new” and “responsible” policy that advocates the interests of the people.
