Erbil: deadly traffic collision kills five including three children

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — At least five people died including three children in a deadly traffic collision in Erbil on Friday.

A deadly traffic collision in the early hours of Friday on Erbil’s 60-meter road killed five people among whom three children were included, traffic police said.

A Hyundai Sonata typed vehicle with five passengers on board collided with another vehicle from the opposite side.

The sonata drove at an “extreme” speed, according to the traffic police. Four of its passengers died as the result.

Meanwhile, in the opposite car, the driver was killed and left another injured.

All of the Hyundai Sonata’s passengers were below 18 years old except for the driver who was the oldest one aged 18.

In the Kurdistan Region, the minimum eligible age to get a driving license is 18-year-old.

Traffic accident in the Kurdistan Region is at the forefront of causing mortality among citizens.

Over 600 people were killed in traffic accidents across the Region in 2021, with more than seven thousand injured, according to data from the Region’s traffic police.
