SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Shiite coordination nominee for premiership met on Tuesday in Baghdad with the President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).
PUK President Bafel Talabani, and Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, the coordination nominee for premiership met.
They held discussions on the long-standing political deadlock and steps to form the government.
Both sides stressed integrating the national efforts for the sake of the formation of a “strengthful” government that “safeguards” everyone’s rights.
“We will never make a compromise on our people’s rights,” PUK President told al-Sudani, according to a press release.
Talabani further said that their efforts are for succeeding in the political process and “better” administrating.
Al-Sudani in return commended PUK’s role with its President’s efforts to mark the end of the tensions.
“We are thrilled that President Mam Jalal’s path is alive on the hand of President Talabani it’s been leading,” al-Sudani said.
“It’s a path which sees itself in deepening the spirit of harmony and coexistence, making dialogue and understanding the basis to resolve the issues,” al-Sudani added.
Over a year has passed since Iraq held its latest parliamentary elections, but it seems that the country has finally approached to get a new government.
The Speaker of the Iraq parliament on Tuesday announced the legislature is set to hold a session on Thursday this week.
The session will be dedicated to electing a new president of the republic, Mohammed al-Halbousi, the speaker of parliament said.
