PUK calls for investigation of ‘Assassination’ incident of Counter-Terrorism officer in Erbil

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) faction in the Kurdistan Region parliament on Sunday called for an investigation of the“ Assassination” incident of the officer of the Region’s Protection and Information/Information agency.  

The chairman of the PUK in the parliament, Zyad Jabar in a statement told the parliament said, “Unfortunately in the past two days in an act of terror Colonel [Hawkar Jaf], an officer for the Kurdistan Region’s Protection and Information/Information agency was assassinated.”

“Despite denouncing such an inhuman terrorist act, we deny all claims against the PUK,” Jabar told the lawmakers and the speaker of the chamber.

He also called the parliament to form a special committee from the committees of interior, and human rights to oversee the investigations, precisely following them. And finally, reveal the truth to the public.

“The case should neither be misdirected nor be politicized,” the chairman strongly insisted.

Inside the same session, the deputy of the PUK faction chairman, Luqman Warte, echoed similar words, refusing all accusations against the party.

“During the past 47 years, he meant since the foundation of the party, PUK has been one of the revolutionary forces that made great sacrifices for freedom and peace in the Kurdistan Region,” Warte said.

Earlier on Friday an officer of the Kurdistan’s Protection and Information/Information agency was killed in a car blast incident in Erbil, he served as an officer of the Counter-Terrorism forces (CTG) which is affiliated with the PUK.

An explosive device attached to the bottom of the car detonated at around 1 p.m., killing the officer and injuring two women and two children who were in the car, counter-terrorism service in a statement.

Following the incident, Kurdistan’s Protection and Information/Information agency released a statement, calling the Region’s security force to be precise and reveal the truth to the public.

“Martyr Jaf has been previously in official duty, he played a prominent role in the Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism Forces, security filed and served the Region’s security and tranquility,” the statement said.

“We call on the Region’s security forces to be precise in the investigations and reveal the suspects and the truthfulness of the incident for the public and bring them to justice and punish them,” the statement added.
