SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi President Barham Salih on Friday said that bombing the Kurdistan Region by both Turkey and Iran is “unacceptable”.
President Salih met with Iraqi national security advisor Qassim al-Araji late that day, discussing the Turkish and Iranian attacks on the Kurdistan Region that have increased this year, targeting civilians and depth of Iraq’s territory.
During the meeting the President said that “Iran’s attacks are unacceptable, it assaults on the country’s sovereignty, security and stability with the safety of people.”
President’s words came after when Iran on Wednesday targeted the Kurdistan Region with kamikaze drones and launched at least 70 ballistic missiles, according to the official IRNA.
The attack killed at least 13 people and wounded 58, the Kurdistan Region Health Ministry confirmed. It targeted Iranian Kurdish dissidents that established their bases in both Sulaimani and Erbil provinces.
President Salih also spoke on the Turkish attacks on the Kurdistan Region, he echoed the same phrases, saying “It’s unacceptable”.
He stressed that the attacks must be stopped in order to prevent further consequences.
Both Iran and Turkey have intensified their attacks by using advanced methods of warfare on the ground as well as in the sky this year in the Region under the pretext of fighting “terrorists” there.
Both countries deem the Turkish and Iranian Kurdish rebel groups who established their footholds in the Kurdistan Region as “terrorists” that undermine their national security.
