SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A 22-year-old Kurdish woman died on Friday in Iran’s Tehran due to serious injuries after she was beaten by the Iranian morality police for refusing to wear compulsory Islamic dress, the head scarf.
Jina Amini, 22, who was originally from Rojahalt’s Saqqez after spending days has died in a hospital in Iran’s Islamic Republic capital after she suffered from serious injuries, beaten by the morality police, a human rights watchdog said.
“Amini died after coma in hospital, she had been beaten by the guidance patrol for not wearing the headscarf,” Hengaw watchdog for human rights cited her family as saying.
Amini was transferred to custody before she was taken to the hospital, falling into a coma when the morality police brutally beat her, the watchdog added.
Gasht-e Ershad, or guidance patrol, in Iran is responsible to monitor and enforce the Islamic dress in Iran by women. The hijab has been compulsory for women in Iran since shortly after the 1979 Islamic revolution.
