SULAIMANI (ESTA) — British Secretary of State for Foreign Liz Truss will be named as the United Kingdom’s next prime minister after she won the governing party vote on Monday, her election comes as Britain is going through the worst economic crisis in 40 years.

Defeating her opponent former finance minister Rishi Sunak, Truss has won the governing Conservative party at a time when the country faces a cost of living crisis, industrial unrest, and a recession.

Came out on top in a vote of the Conservative party she gained 81,300 votes among Conservatives, while her rival,  Sunak, collected 60,400 votes, Truss rallied against high energy costs and taxes, vowing to slash them soon which trapped the UK in the worst economic crisis for 40 years, where the inflation reached its highest rates.

Truss, 47, will be the next UK Prime Minister following Boris Johnsen step down who was forced to announce his resignation in July after months of scandal saw support for his administration drain away.

Johnson is scheduled to travel to Scotland to meet Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday to tender his resignation officially. Truss will follow him to get the monarch’s consent and form the government.

Truss’s reign will be in an era where the UK has been buffeted from crisis to crisis and now faces what is forecast to be a long recession triggered by sky-rocketing inflation which hit 10.1% in July.
