SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Masrour Barzani congratulated Bafel Jalal Talabani on Tuesday by phone after he was named as President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) early this week.
President Talabani received a phone call from Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, during the call Barzani extended his congratulation to Talabani after he was elected as the sole President of the PUK earlier on Sunday by the party leadership council.
“Prime Minister Barzani wished success for the PUK President Bafel Talabani in his duty to improve the coordination between all parties and support the Kurdistan Region government in a direction that serves the Kurdistan people,” a statement from Talabani’s media office said regarding the call.
Earlier on Sunday, the leadership council of the PUK held a meeting in Sulaimani where it decided to dismiss the co-presidential party system and, named Bafel Talabani as sole president of the PUK.
