SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Commando Forces foiled an attack on Khor Mor gas field after they seized three rocket launch pads on Sunday, installed to target the field in Sulaimani’s Chamchamal.
Early today the fourth regiment of Kurdistan Commando Forces in the QaderKarem sub-district of Sulaimani province, seized at least three rocket launch pads, according to a statement released by the Commando forces command.
“The launch pads were installed to target Khor Mor natural gas field,” the statement said.
QaderKarem which lies in Chamchamal’s vicinity is the place where the Kurdistan Region’s key gas field of Khor Mor is located, the facility runs by the United Arab Emirates-based private energy company of Dana Gas.
Khor Mor is one of the two biggest fields for natural gas production in Iraq, producing around 452 million cubic feet per day of gas.
UAE-based Dana Gas started production from Khor Mor in 2008. Recently, during the past few months, the field targeted several times by rockets but none of them were caused serious damage or human losses.
