SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A paraglider was detained by local security forces (Asaiysh) on Friday, alleged by set fire to the Goizha mountain.
In the early hours of this morning, Friday, in Goizha Mountain, Sulaimani, while a Paraglider was flown over the Goziha Mountain, he dropped a fire torch on the bushes according to several local words who were visited the mountain for a walk.
However, the fire was controlled and extinguished before it turned out into a big blaze by the locals.
Following the incident, Sulaiamni Security forces (Asayish) in a statement said, the Paraglider was detained over dropping the torch.
“At 6:00 a.m. local time, a fire broke out in the Goizha Mountain after a paraglider dropped a fire torch, however, it did not enlarge, and several locals successfully controlled the fire,” it said.
“Asayish was able to detain the paraglider shortly, he is currently being held in the custody and the investigations are ongoing along with legal procedures” it added.
Sulaimani security also said, yet it is not confirmed whether he did that on purpose or not, according to initial investigations, he was a member of the Sulaimani paragliding club team and dropped the torch due to a technical failure while he was on paragliding.
Goizha Mountain is one of the places that tourists come to from inside and outside the Kurdistan Region in the summer. And it has been exposed to fire caused in losing thousands of trees.
