SULAIMANI (ESTA) — In a statement on Monday Sulaimani police revealed it detained six suspects charged with narcotics offenses, and deemed themselves as a narcotic gang.
According to the Police statement, “After it received information on six narcotic dealers, the forces immediately launched investigations”, and “the offenders were subsequently detained by the Kurdsat police units”.
It also said that, during the detention operation, “Police seized a number of drug substances as well as a pistol, with some drug-related items and phones”.
“The six suspects are detained by judge’s decision, in accordance with article 30 of Iraqi penal code regarding prevention of drug” the statement read.
Drug trafficking in the Kurdistan Region has increased to a very substantial level, authorities have long warned of the situation saying, the Region became a hot spot for drug trafficking.
