Weather forecast says Kurdistan Region skies remain bright as Iraq faces dust storm

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq’s weather forecast announced on Wednesday another severe dust storm will cover Iraq, and Kurdistan Region skies will remain bright according to the Region’s Meteorology.

The general directorate of the weather forecast in the Kurdistan Region said the Region’s skies will be fair on Thursday as temperatures experience a decline.

Meanwhile, Iraq waits to be battered by another severe dust storm expected to hit the south and central of the country and cover the skies on Thursday afternoon, the Iraqi Meteorology Board said.

“Iraq’s dust storm will continue until Saturday, however, temperatures encounter decline throughout Iraq including the Kurdistan Region,” the Board said.

Iraq has seen an increasing number of dust, sand, and windstorms in recent months, including several in recent weeks. Most Iraqis say that cannot remember experiencing so many storms in such a short space of time.

Iraq’s summers are getting hotter, hitting record temperatures of at least 52 degrees Celsius in the past two years.

The country’s agriculture sector, dependent largely on the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, has also suffered from drought and rising heat. Iraq’s 2020-2021 rainfall season was the second driest in 40 years, according to the United Nations.
