Fire breaks out at displacement camp in Zakho, no casualties

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A fire broke out in a displacement camp in Zakho administration in the Kurdistan Region on Friday, Esta Media Network reporter said.

The reporter in Duhok said the fire erupted in Bajid Kandala camp for displaced people from Sinjar in Zakho at 9 a.m. on Friday.

The fire caused no casualties, but damaged equipment of the displaced people in the tents, he added.

It was the second fire incident in Zakho this week. Late on Wednesday, a fire that broke out at Chamshko displacement camp killed a 27-year-old-man and wounded seven others.

The camp was built in 2014 for Yazidis displaced after Islamic State (ISIS) militants took over Sinjar. It hosts about 5,000 Yazidi families.

In March, at least three tents were destroyed and two others seriously damaged at Chamshko camp due to fire outbreak.

In January, a six-year-old girl was killed in a fire that broke out at Esyan displacement camp in Sheikhan district.
