SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Erbil Court on Thursday sentenced to death a suspect, who was accused of killing two university professors one year ago, a press conference said.

On June, 28 2022, Kawan Ismael, the dean of law faculty at Salahadin University, and professor Idris Eizat at the faculty of engineering were gunned down by a young student.

“The verdict waits for the signature of the Kurdistan Region President to be executed,” said the lawyer of Ismael and Kawan’s case in a press conference.

It has yet to be known whether the President is going to sign the execution verdict or not as the lawyer added that there are 450 inmates who have been sentenced to death in the Region.

“None of them have been executed so far because it has not been signed by the President,” the lawyer said.

In the meantime, the family of the victim pleaded for justice to be done, calling on the Kurdistan Region President to sign the execution verdict for the killer of Ismael and Eizat.
