SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Eight Iraqis were detained in northern Turkey on Friday (November 13) over suspected links to Islamic State (ISIS) militants, Turkish state media reported.
Anadolu Agency reported that Turkish counter-terrorism forces carried out an operation on several places in Samsun province on Friday.
The Turkish forces detained eight Iraqis out of 11 suspected of ties to Islamic State, the news agency said.
“Operations continue to arrest the other three Iraqis,” the agency reported.
Turkish security forces intermittently carry out raids against ISIS suspects in the country. In September, Turkish forces detained 20 Iraqis over suspected membership to ISIS.
Turkish forces also detained 20 more Iraqis in Samsun in August and June.
On July 19, they arrested 27 people in Istanbul linked to the group who were suspected of preparing an attack.
Islamic State has conducted numerous attacks across Turkey, including on a nightclub in Istanbul on Jan. 1, 2017 in which 39 people were killed, and a bombing in the city’s historic heart that killed 12 in 2016.
