SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kuwait Airways has resumed flights to Iraq, the ministry of foreign affairs said on Thursday.
Spokesman of Iraq’s foreign ministry Ahmed al-Sahaf said the director of the Kuwaiti Airways had announced the resumption of flights to Iraq during a meeting with the Iraqi ambassador to Kuwait, Manhal al-Safi, the official Iraqi news agency reported.
Kuwait Airways suspended its flights to Iraq last month due to “the current situation there”, the Gulf country’s flag carrier said a day after several rockets landed in Iraq’s Baghdad International Airport compound.
The Iraqi military said the attack damaged two commercial planes but caused no casualties.
Reuters cited police sources as saying that the rockets landed in the airport’s compound and near an adjacent U.S. air base.
The U.S. air base, known as Camp Victory, is located around the perimeter of Baghdad’s civilian airport.
Rocket attacks which U.S. and some Iraqi officials blame on Iran-aligned Shia militia groups who oppose the U.S. military presence in the region have regularly hit the complex in recent years.
